How I Changed My Family - 1639 Words

At the beginning of the semester, I learned a definition of the word family. It stated that a family is any parent-child relationship that cared for each other, that was committed to being in that relationship, and considered that group to be significantly attached. I am going to explore two theories and explain how I turned out the way I did, along with why my family functions the way it does. I will also reflect on things I have learned this past semester in this class. The first theory I chose was the Attachment Theory. The attachment theory proposes that your childhood relationships forms the type of attachment style you apply to other relationships later in life. My parents have a very healthy marriage and have been married for over†¦show more content†¦I have never had any reason to not trust my parents and so trust is not something I worry about too much, though they taught me to be cautious in all my relationships. This cautiousness has been very helpful throughout the years of navigating friendships and dating experiences. I really like being trusted and being able to be confided in, so I like to do the same to others. The Family Systems Theory is the second theory I chose. This theory is about how a family works as a whole compared to how the individuals work by themselves. It considers the different ways family members react and deal with things. I know that my family works well together because we have been trained to do so, but i t has strengthened us to trust and support each other. My family is an open household, and we tell each other a lot. This has helped us become a close knit family. We all have great capabilities, but like the saying goes, there is strength in numbers. Each family member knows how the others act to certain situations and we have learned to help support each other through trying situations. Because my sisters and I were home schooled, I think this is one reason why we are so close. It is nice knowing my family so well because I can predict their reactions and help avoid crisis but also help expound the joy.
